The News was dedicated to providing a consistent venue for the exploration, collaboration and the development of new queer work*. For five years, on the first Tuesday of each month, The News cast a spotlight on new performance pieces, experiments, debut works and works in progress by pre-selected solo artists, groups or troupes. A lively discussion, and often a round at the Lone Star, often followed the performances.

Over five years, The News has hosted 50 performance evenings, over 320 artists, three roundtable discussions (including a 25 person panel on queer performance curation), and an improv dance performance with 40+ participants

The News took place on the first Tuesday of each month from at SOMArts Cultural Center, at first costing only $5, NOTAFLF and in it's third year becoming a free event with donations going directly to the artists. The evening is ended, but the spirit has evolved into a new queer curatorial series at SOMArts.
